These photography classes are being offered in collaboration
with Keep Sedona Beautiful, the Sedona Film School and Susie Reed Photos.

Learn to create top-notch photos with award-winning fine art and commercial photographer Susie Reed who'll help photographers better understand and get comfortable with their cameras and Photoshop. She’ll explain and demonstrate important steps in the picture making process that make a difference and lead to better quality photos. She’ll explore everything from getting ready for a shoot to preparing pictures for a variety of uses, including preparing entries for the Keep Sedona Beautiful photo contest.

Photoshop classes will be held in the computer lab at Yavapai College. They have computers with full versions of Photoshop and Photoshop Elements installed that can be used in Windows or Mac environments.
Susie will help students work on their own pictures during Photoshop classes.
Please bring photos on a flash drive or disc to use.

PHOTO SHOOT FUNDAMENTALS

Thursday • July 25, 2013 • 1:00 - 3:00 • 220 Goodrow Lane • West Sedona, AZ

Explore technical and creative sides of what goes into a good photo shoot. Learn what to bring, which camera settings to use and the correct sizes and types of photos to shoot for print and the Internet. Plus get tips for good composition, shooting landscapes, people, panoramas, HDR, focus stacking and more. Susie will also discuss how to make creative choices, find inspiration, develop your own unique eye and photographer’s intuition. This is an indoors class. Please bring your camera and manual.

PHOTOSHOP BASICS FOR BEGINNERS

Sunday • July 28, 2013 • 10:00 - 5:00 • Yavapai College • 4215 Arts Village Drive • Room 28 • Sedona, AZ

There will be a one hour break for lunch.

This class will help people get familiar and comfortable with using Photoshop. Susie will explain menus and tools and show how to use some of the best ones to improve photos, which students will practice using on their own pictures during the class. She’ll demonstrate how to open and adjust camera files, including RAW ones and show ways to color correct, sharpen, spot, resize, crop, add type to photos and save them in the different types and sizes needed for the Internet and print. She'll also show how to preview and edit photos using Bridge, which is a companion application that comes with Photoshop. Please bring photos on a disc or flash drive to work with.

PHOTOSHOP BEST TOOLS

There will be a one hour break for lunch.

In this class Susie will demonstrate a select group of very effective Photoshop’s tools, which can be used to improve and correct most pictures, even challenging ones. Having a basic understanding of this set of tools can help photographers achieve desired results without becoming overwhelmed by Photoshop’s many options. Included in what will be shown are ways to remove unwanted elements from pictures, like power lines. Please bring photos on a disc or flash drive to work on with Susie's assistance during the class.

TIPS FOR SUBMITTING PHOTOS
TO CONTESTS, EXHIBITS & GALLERIES

Susie will share insider’s tips for putting together successful submissions based on her experience judging and organizing several photo contests, hanging shows and widely exhibiting her work, including at Goldenstein Gallery in Sedona for the last five years. She’ll talk about how to choose where to submit, good research to do, important steps to take and discuss how to navigate emotional highs and lows that may occur along the way. For hands on help with preparing presentations Susie’s August 4th Edit and Fine Tune with Photoshop workshop is good to pair with this class.

EDIT AND FINE TUNE WITH PHOTOSHOP

There will be a one hour break for lunch.

If you’re a photographer with lots of pictures who'd like help organizing them and determining which are best to use for different situations this class is for you. Susie will demonstrate ways to edit, rank and adjust pictures using Photoshop. She'll discuss how to determine what order to present them in, how many to show and talk about the importance of titles. With her guidance, feedback and assistance students will put together groups of their own pictures and fine-tune some of their best ones using Photoshop tools. Please bring plenty of pictures to work with on a flash drive or disc. Basic knowledge of Photoshop is recommended for this workshop.

This is an opportunity to work one on one with a seasoned professional who can provide valuable feedback, insights, tips and answer questions. She accompanies people on shoots, teaches Photoshop, explains camera settings, how to achieve good composition, make creative choices, helps with editing and more. She also does portfolio reviews and assists artists with editing and preparing submissions for galleries, exhibits and competitions. About Susie Reed

Award-winning photographer Susie Reed’s work has been exhibited in major museums and galleries including the Cooper Hewitt Museum, the De Young Museum, the International Museum of Photography and elsewhere. In Sedona she’s been showing at Goldenstein Gallery since 2009. This acclaimed gallery was voted the city’s top gallery for the last six years.
